About Visualization, Meditation and Golf

This is a follow-up to my previous post about Golf and Relaxation. A few people expressed curiosity about this 'odd' subject matter for a sleep aiding CD. I say there is nothing odd about it. What aids in helping people relax and sleep is purely subjective. I have always believed that this site would eventually grow into hundreds of relaxing audio scenarios. Unlike conventional 'Nature Sound' recordings (i.e. thunderstorms, crickets, birds and ocean waves) Virtual Dreams adds context to the content of relaxing nature and natural sounds. This promotes visualization and aids in sleep onset. Just as in meditation the section of the human brain we are interested in is the secondary visual cortex. I have written about this before and you can find some of my scribbling in previous 'Sleep Thoughts'.

So, back to golf... a dreamscape that as of today I have yet to finish (note: Twilight Golf was finished on November 9th and is available by clicking here)  I have heard golf described as a long walk in the park that is occasionally interrupted by hitting a ball with a stick. I have golfed before and will golf again. There is a Zen like quality to the game that some people find relaxing. Not everyone will 'get' the golfing relaxation CD just as not everyone will 'get' Thunder Train. Again, these are subjective recordings chosen for the relaxing sounds (content) that can be found in those scenarios and the visualization (context) that can be enhanced through audio effects.

Using the above mentioned paradigm for future projects one can extrapolate hundreds of scenarios. One possibility could be a peaceful horse stable environment... while another could be a hot air balloon ride. They could be serene or adventurous. They can occur in our time... or in other eras.  So, you might ask yourself, if this is so effective then why did it take until 2009 for someone to innovate it? The answer is simple. Because the timing was right. The age of a few record companies subjectively picking what will and will not be distributed to the public nationally is over. Just like record companies, book and software publishers no longer control what you or I have access to. The ability to self-publish and self-market is one of the rewards of the Internet.

If you have any ideas for future nature and natural sound projects email me. Some of the best  ideas for new relaxation and sleep aiding sounds have come from patrons.
